A New start-up Airline called Skybus is beginning service this month from its base in Columbus, Ohio. The Airline CEO says the new airline will introduce domestic ultra-low fares and have separate charges for services from baggage handling to onboard snacks and drinks.
Slybus plans to reserve 10 seats on all flights at $10 one-way. Skybus planes have 150 seats, and that would mean they will reserve 15 percent of their seats at $10. Average fares will be pegged at about 50% of the going rate of other carriers serving the same markets.
The carrier will begin May 22, 2007, with flights between Columbus and Burbank, Calif.; Portsmouth, N.H.; and Kansas City. The next day, it will launch service to Richmond, Va., and on May 29 service to Fort Lauderdale; Greensboro-Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Bellingham, Wash. On June 12, it will add service to Oakland and a second daily flight to Burbank, Ca.
Skybus will charge customers $5 to check a bag. The fee after the first two bags jumps to $50 a bag. Pillows and blankets will be available for another fee. There will also be fees for snacks and drinks.
